In case you're wondering

Frequently asked questions.

How is this different from a doula or an NHS midwife?

+

A doula offers wonderful practical and emotional support but cannot deliver clinical care. An NHS midwife provides clinical care but on a strictly limited number of visits after discharge. As an independent midwife, I combine both — clinical postnatal midwifery and hands-on home support — within one continuous, unhurried relationship.

Where do you work?

+

Across Nottingham, Derby and the wider East Midlands. A 10% local-area discount applies to those living in NG2. Travel further afield and across the UK is possible for bespoke arrangements — please ask.

How discreet is your service?

+

Complete discretion is central to how we work. All enquiries and care plans are held in strict confidence. We are happy to work under NDA and are experienced supporting families whose privacy matters greatly to them.

Are you fully insured and registered?

+

Yes. All clinical care is delivered by a Registered Midwife (NMC) with full professional indemnity insurance for postnatal practice, as required under Article 45 of the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001. Enhanced DBS, adult and paediatric BLS, Newborn Life Support qualified and Level 3 Safeguarding are held and kept current.

When should we book?

+

As early as feels right — typically in the second or third trimester. We work with a small number of families at any one time, so booking early gives the best chance of securing your preferred package and dates.

Do you offer overnight care?

+

Yes, as part of ad-hoc or bespoke bookings. Overnight visits are particularly valued by families with multiples, a NICU discharge or previous birth trauma — and by single parents, or families where one partner works away, or when support is needed with feeding overnight. This extended overnight support can make a real difference to emotional well-being and physical recovery.

Do you attend births?

+

Not currently. Midwife Nicole is a dedicated postnatal service. This focus lets me offer better, less hurried care in the six weeks that follow birth — without the on-call unpredictability of intrapartum work.

Can my private health insurance cover this?

+

Some private health insurers reimburse elements of midwife-led postnatal care such as lactation support or postnatal clinical observation and care which we facilitate. We can provide detailed receipts and invoices to support claims.
